If you stock aftermarket remote controls compatible with Chamberlain / LiftMaster / Chamberlain-Professional openers, the three SKUs that show up most often in buyer RFQs are the 877MAX, 893MAX, and 950ESTD. Each one targets a different opener generation, a different buyer persona, and a different margin band. Sourcing the wrong compatible remote for any of them is the single most common reason a wholesale RFQ gets stuck in technical clarification for two weeks.
This guide gives you a side-by-side comparison, a buy-decision matrix you can hand to your purchasing team, and the factory-direct sourcing path for each — direct from Gemu RF’s OEM/ODM line in Shenzhen, all SKUs CE-RED / FCC Part 15 / RCM / RoHS certified in our own name (certificates transferred under the importer’s name per your contract).

Which buyer persona wants which model
The most useful way to decide which compatible remote to stock is by buyer persona, not by frequency. Three of the most common:
1. The aftermarket replacement retailer (877MAX-heavy)
If your customer is a homeowner with a 2011–2014 opener (purple learn button, 315 MHz Security+), the 877MAX is what they need. It is the highest-volume aftermarket remote in North America for that opener generation. Reorder cadence is roughly every 30–45 days. Lead time of 15 days is rarely a problem because retailers pre-stock against predictable loss/replacement patterns.
Recommendation: stock the 877MAX-compatible Gemu RF remote at a 4:1 ratio against any higher-button-count SKUs. A property-management account might also buy 893MAX (see persona 2), but the entry-level homeowner self-serve channel is 877MAX-dominant.
2. The property-management or installer bundle (893MAX-heavy)
Property managers, gated-community installers, and small commercial accounts stock the 3-button 893MAX because one remote can be paired to three openers (house + gate + outbuilding). The button-mapping cost-saving alone (one SKU covers three devices per resident) makes it the higher-ASP choice for B2B bundle re-orders.
The 893MAX is still 315 MHz Security+, so it works on the same opener generation as the 877MAX. Many distributors bundle both: 877MAX as the retail replacement SKU, 893MAX as the bundle SKU for property-management accounts. They share programming logic and the same 4:1 ratio rule of thumb does not apply.
3. The Security+ 2.0 / 2017+ opener replacement (950ESTD-only)
If the opener has a yellow learn button, the buyer needs a Security+ 2.0 remote. A 877MAX or 893MAX will not pair to a yellow-button opener — confirmed at the receiver level, not at the button level. The 950ESTD is the standard 1-button form factor for this generation.
The 950ESTD is dual-band (315 / 390 MHz) and the protocol is encrypted rolling code, so the compatible aftermarket supply chain is narrower. Most import-volume buyers who need Security+ 2.0 compatible remotes work directly with a factory that holds FCC Part 15 in its own name — generic 1688 listings claiming 950ESTD compatibility often fail field-pairing on the second press. Always ask for a pre-production sample and pair it to a yellow-button opener before signing a PO.
Distributor buy-decision matrix
| Situation | Stock this | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Aftermarket replacement retailer, USA/CAN | 877MAX-compatible | Highest volume of any aftermarket remote; 4:1 ratio vs multi-button |
| Property management / gated community | 893MAX-compatible | 3-button pairing saves per-unit cost; same opener generation |
| Installer serving 2017+ opener fleets | 950ESTD-compatible | Must be Security+ 2.0; 877/893 will NOT pair |
| Wholesale importer, EU + USA dual shipment | 877MAX + 950ESTD | Mix covers 2011–current opener range; 893MAX optional add-on |
| Distributor launching new private-label line | All three with shared PCBA platform | Single OEM can build all three variants from one toolset, lower SKU inventory cost |
Compliance certificates: what to verify
All three SKUs sit in regulated bands (315 MHz for North America; 950ESTD additionally supports 390 MHz, which falls under FCC Part 15 sub-band). For any factory-direct sourcing, confirm four things in writing before placing the PO:
- FCC Part 15 certificate is in the manufacturer’s name — not borrowed, not “tested by” a third-party lab. The certificate holder can be changed to your entity by filing a Class II permissive change, but only if the original certificate is yours to transfer.
- RCM (Australia) certificate for 315 MHz variants — required for any unit entering AU/NZ. Some Chinese factories skip this; without it, your shipment stops at customs.
- CE-RED is required only for 868 MHz EU-band variants. None of the three North American models need CE-RED for sale in the USA/CAN. Do not let the factory sell you a “CE-RED certificate” for 315 MHz as if it covers the product — it doesn’t.
- RoHS compliance is universal. Confirm the factory’s RoHS test report covers the specific housing and PCB batch you are receiving.
Factory-direct sourcing path from Gemu RF
Gemu RF is the OEM/ODM line of Foyum Electronics, Shenzhen, in continuous operation since 1995. All three models can be sourced factory-direct:
- 877MAX-compatible: existing SKU gemurm-lm877max-en, MOQ 500 pcs, in-stock tooling, 15-day prototyping on any housing color or logo print.
- 893MAX-compatible: not a stock SKU; built-to-order on a shared PCBA platform with the 877MAX. Sample in 7 days, production in 15–20 days after sample approval.
- 950ESTD-compatible: Security+ 2.0 protocol with 315 / 390 MHz dual-band. Sample in 14 days (encryption verification adds time), production in 20–25 days. MOQ 1,000 pcs.
All three SKUs ship with CE-RED / FCC Part 15 / RCM / RoHS certificates held in our name, with a Class II permissive-change letter we sign so your company is on the certificate as importer of record.
Distributor FAQs
Will a 877MAX-compatible remote pair to a yellow-button opener?
No. Security+ (purple-button, 2011–2014) and Security+ 2.0 (yellow-button, 2017+) use different rolling-code protocols. A 877MAX-compatible remote will not register on a yellow-button receiver — confirmed at firmware level, not just marketing. Buyers need the 950ESTD-compatible SKU for any opener manufactured after 2017.
Can one compatible remote work on both 315 MHz and 390 MHz?
Only the 950ESTD-compatible SKU from Gemu RF does this. It is a dual-band receiver; 877MAX and 893MAX are 315 MHz single-band. If your customer has a mixed fleet (some yellow-button, some purple-button), the 950ESTD is the safer SKU — but it does not pair to the older opener without a Security+ 2.0 receiver upgrade, which is rarely practical.
What’s the realistic shipping cost per unit, Shenzhen to (port)?
For a 1,000-unit FCL order, expect roughly $0.10–$0.18 per unit landed at Los Angeles / Long Beach via standard ocean freight, plus duty (US HTS 8543.70 — duty-free for most FTA-eligible origins). Air freight for samples is roughly $1.40 per unit if you ship 50 units with FedEx International Priority.
How long does the certificate-transfer process take?
Class II permissive change filings in the USA take 4–6 weeks through a Telecommunication Certification Body (TCB). RCM transfer in Australia is a SDoC (Supplier Declaration of Conformity) update — your local agent can do it in 1–2 weeks. We provide the original certificate, test reports, and a signed permissive-change authorization letter; you file via your local agent.
