Excerpt: A wholesale buyer’s reference to the three most common RF remote frequencies. Regional allocation, common receiver families, and which one your factory-direct supplier should stock.
Introduction
Frequency selection is the first decision a B2B remote distributor has to make. Wrong frequency = zero compatibility. This reference covers the three dominant bands, the regions that mandate each, and the receiver families they pair with.
Why three frequencies? Why not one global standard?
Regulatory fragmentation. The 433 MHz ISM band is allocated in Europe, Africa, and most of Asia. The 315 MHz band is the de-facto US standard for garage door and consumer RF. The 868 MHz band is a tighter European allocation with shorter range but cleaner spectrum access. No single frequency is legal worldwide, and OEMs have aligned to their home markets. As a distributor, you stock the frequency that matches your region’s installed base of receivers.
315 MHz — North America and Latin America
315 MHz dominates the US garage-door and consumer RF market. LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Linear/MegaCode, Genie, and most North American-installed receivers operate at this frequency. If your buyers are in the US, Canada, or Mexico, your catalog should lead with 315 MHz SKUs. Note: 390 MHz is a sub-band used by some Chamberlain Security+ 2.0 devices; verify with the specific operator model.
433.92 MHz — Europe, Africa, most of Asia
433.92 MHz is the global default outside the Americas. European brands (Hörmann, SOMMER, Nice, Beninca) operate primarily at 433 MHz; African and Middle Eastern markets use 433 MHz predominantly. A multi-band cloner that pairs with 433 MHz receivers is a strong default SKU for export distributors.
868.35 MHz — European high-security
868.35 MHz (sometimes labelled 868.3 MHz) is the BiSecur and similar high-security rolling-code band used by Hörmann and a handful of premium European brands. It offers shorter range than 433 MHz but a cleaner radio environment. Expect EU-market premium operators to require 868 MHz compatibility.
What to stock in 2026
For wholesale distributors serving mixed markets: (1) 433 MHz multi-band cloner as universal default, (2) 315 MHz cloner for North American accounts, (3) 868 MHz specific models for premium European operators. MOQ 500 pcs per SKU is the standard tier for OEM; cloner housings are interchangeable across frequencies so you can re-balance inventory by region without re-tooling.
