Eaton DILM Coil Replacement Procedure and Compatibility
DILM contactor coils can be replaced without replacing the entire contactor. This guide covers coil replacement procedure and compatibility for the DILM series.
When to Replace the Coil
Common signs of coil failure:
- Contactor will not energize (coil open circuit)
- Contactor chatters or hums (low voltage or failing coil)
- Coil is physically damaged (burned, melted, swollen)
- Insulation resistance failure (megger test)
Coil Replacement Procedure
- Disconnect power to the contactor and control circuit
- Verify zero energy with appropriate tester
- Remove wiring from coil terminals (typically A1 and A2)
- Remove old coil by unscrewing mounting screws or releasing snap-on clips
- Install new coil matching original voltage and current type (AC or DC)
- Reconnect wiring to coil terminals
- Restore power and test contactor operation
Identifying the Correct Replacement Coil
To select the correct replacement coil:
- Note the existing coil voltage (printed on coil label)
- Note the current type (AC or DC)
- Identify the contactor model (DILM7, DILM17, DILM40, etc.)
- Match to the correct DILM-XSP part number
