A Date Code Turns an Argument Into a Record
“Some of the batch failed” is not actionable. “Eight units from the batch marked 241018-B failed within three weeks of installation” is. The difference between those two statements is the entire practical value of batch traceability, and it is why every unit we ship carries a date code.

How the Date Code Works
| Element | What it identifies | Where it appears |
|---|---|---|
| Date code | Production date of the batch | Printed on the product where the format allows and on the carton label |
| Batch reference | Line, shift and sequence within the run | On the carton label and the packing list |
| Component lot | Incoming lot references for the run | Held against the batch in our records |
| Packing list | Quantity by SKU for that shipment | The link between a batch and the customer holding it |
| Test report | Inspection result for the batch | Ships with the goods, not on request afterwards |
Why It Changes the Outcome of a Claim
Without a date code, a claim is a dispute about whether the product is at fault, whether the customer stored it correctly, and whether a batch problem existed. With a date code, the question becomes narrow and answerable: which run, which components went into it, which other customers received from the same run.
That second question matters commercially as well as technically. If a batch has a defect rate above what a claim would reveal, the right action is to quarantine the remaining stock in the field — which we cannot do unless we know who holds it. We ask for a copy of the packing list with every order, precisely so that a batch issue can be contained.
What We Ask You to Keep
- The carton label — it carries the SKU, the quantity and the batch reference.
- The packing list — it is the only record of which customer holds which batch.
- Any batch test report shipped with the goods.
- The date code photograph taken at goods-in, if your receiving team is set up to take one.
Keep the carton label and the packing list together. They are the two documents that turn a warranty question into an answer, and they cost nothing to keep.
