Why Commissioning Sheets Save Money
A commissioning sheet is not paperwork. It is the record that converts a dispute about a drive, a handset or a safety edge into a conversation about settings. Most callbacks in this product category are not manufacturing defects; they are commissioning omissions — a safety edge that was never tested, a force setting that was never recorded, a handset that was learned but never re-tested after a power cut.

The Checklist
| Check | How to perform it | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Obstruction test | Every safety edge and beam, both directions, at normal speed | The single most important test |
| Power-loss behaviour | Manual release operated; behaviour on restoration confirmed | Frequently omitted |
| Remote range test | From the worst approach position, not at the panel | Confirms antenna placement |
| Force setting recorded | Obstruction sensitivity written on the sheet | Converts a dispute into a record |
| End-stop position | Gate stops and holds under load | Prevents drift out of square |
| Handovers documented | Remotes, wall handsets, key switch, release procedure given to the user | Prevents a call within a month |
The Three Tests That Matter Most
Obstruction test. Every safety edge and every safety beam on the gate is tested with a real obstruction, on every opening and closing direction, with the gate running at its normal speed. Power-loss test. The manual release is operated, and the behaviour on power restoration is confirmed. Remote range test. The handset is tested from the worst position in the vehicle’s approach, not from the control box.
Those three tests take fifteen minutes and account for most of the field issues that would otherwise become a return.
Record the obstruction force setting and the power-loss behaviour on the commissioning sheet. Those two lines resolve more callbacks than any amount of correspondence.
What to Hand Over to the End User
A commissioning sheet, the handheld remote(s) and wall handset(s), the key switch if fitted, and a written note of how to operate the manual release. A site handed over without those four items generates a call within a month.
