Why Sliding Gates Generate Callbacks
A sliding gate that stops halfway, reverses on an obstruction, or drifts out of square after a few weeks is almost always a mismatch between the drive thrust and the actual gate load — not a defective motor. The load includes the gate weight, the track friction, the gradient and, on older installations, a layer of surface corrosion that nobody measured.

The Four Numbers
| Input | What to send | What it decides |
|---|---|---|
| Boom length | The clear opening in metres | Determines the boom profile and the drive class |
| Barrier weight | Total moving mass including boom, skirt and LED strip | Determines thrust and gearbox size |
| Cycles per day | Average and peak-hour figure | Determines duty rating; this is the number most often quoted without a period |
| Wind exposure | Open or sheltered site | Changes the boom profile recommendation |
The Obstruction-Sensitivity Setting Is Not a Feature to Ignore
Every sliding-gate drive carries an obstruction-detection force setting. Set too high, the drive will push through a genuine obstruction; set too low, it will stop on normal operational resistance and leave the gate half-open, which the installer then diagnoses as a motor failure. The correct setting is determined by measured gate resistance, and it should be recorded on the commissioning sheet.
A commissioning sheet that records the obstruction force setting is worth more than a warranty claim. It converts an argument about the drive into a record of what was configured.
What to Ask For With the Order
- Drive thrust sized to measured gate resistance, not to nominal gate weight alone.
- Track specification, because a mismatched track changes the friction the drive has to work against.
- End-stop and mechanical release provision, for sites where power failure needs a manual override.
- Matching rolling-code remotes in the same supply, so the commissioning visit is not held up waiting for controls.
